They can do some crazy stuff these days. Disney’s Imagineering department is insane. I just watched the whole documentary series about them on Disney+. Obviously a Disney-produced documentary about themselves is going to be pretty self-congratulatory. But it really does look like their Imagineering team comes up with some insane blue-sky ideas. Two movies like they originally planned would have been fine as well, but they decided they wanted to milk a trilogy at the end and switched directors so we got what we got. I grew up with The Hobbit and not so much the LotR trilogy. And was very disappointed with The Hobbit after they did such a fantastic job with the trilogy. The difference between a good actor and a legend is being able to see what will work around you and not just for your role. Herzog (according to Herzog) actually went to the producers to make sure baby Yoda was a puppet.
