The climate is changing and we need Nice Awesome I’m With Her Sunflower Earth Day Save Earth Mother Shirt. It’s changing faster than historic records would predict given the lack of volcanism and major asteroid impacts. Human activity has environmental effects that may be a significant component of the causes of this change – highly probable theory. Humanity is not prepared to adjust to these changes without loss of life. Humanity is capable of surviving major shifts in the climate. As a percentage of Humanity, the loss of life due to climate change will likely be no different than the impacts of major historical epidemics – inference from multiple climate impact studies. It’s bad if you are looking for the security that your life is not at risk.

The world will be different. IMHO that’s a good thing. This is at most a gesture, and if we want to change this will be only the starting signal, not the solution. The party is over we now have to deal with the hangover in the future. Depends where you are but the overall global average temperature is increasing. It is hypothesized that if enough arctic ice melts then the gulf stream that moves warm water from the Caribbean to western Europe will stop functioning, which would definitely make western Europe colder. But by that point, they would have already become hotter in the first place.

Am I suggesting that we just sit back and keep polluting? No! But operating from a place of fear is what’s led us to our militarized surveillance state world of today. The prevailing emotion regarding our environmental abuse should sit somewhere between chagrin and shame. The only way to achieve a betterment is to reduce consumption in general. Most CO₂ emissions come from intercontinental logistics (the example has cruisers, but cargo ships produce even more). The same for electric cars: To produce one electric car you can drive 100.000 km with a Diesel before you get a CO₂ break-even point. I drive mostly by train now which has a far better CO₂ footprint, even with Diesel.
