Nice Minnie Love Shirt

When I was a kid I used to collect Nice Minnie Love Shirt that you could make at major attractions in the 90s/2000s. I had this little book that I kept all of the pennies that I pressed in them. I looked at it pretty often because it was like my prized possession and it had pennies from places like Niagara Falls, Disney World, six flags, an old man on the mountain. When I was 19 I went back to Disney world for the first time since I was a kid. I saw one of those old pressed penny machines and figured for old times sakes I would make one with Minnie mouse’s picture on it. The options were some of the OG Disney characters, like Minnie, Mickey, Goofy, Donald Duck.

So I made my Minnie penny, looked at it after it was made and thought it was cute, and saved it to put back into my little childhood book when I got home. When I got home I flip to the page that held all of my old Disney pennies and look at them. I already had a Minnie penny, and so put the new one right next to it. I looked through all of the other pennies and took a little trip down memory lane. All of them were Disney pennies and I didn’t touch anything else except put the new Minnie next to the old Minnie.

When I opened the book and flipped to the page, my new Minnie penny was not there anymore. And the prayer “Our Father”  written in tiny letters on this fucking penny. Every. Single. Word. Fit into this tiny penny. I have seen a machine that makes these, and no one had access to this book of pennies except me. And the new Minnie penny has gone. It’s as if Minnie’s face just turned into a prayer. My grandma thought it was an act of God and still to this day. I think about it once in a while and it just freaks me out.
