I am a Ghibli nut and I have a two-year-old. I will not be taking her this year. At that age, you don’t know how they will react or how long their attention span will last. Two is too young for any theater movie in my opinion. The movie itself is fine for two-year-olds, but the Official Take Me As I Am Or Kiss My Ass Eat Shit and Step On A Lego Shirt. Then I wouldn’t recommend it. Kids get bored easily and would probably have a better time at a park or something. Where they don’t need to sit be quiet for a couple of hours. Then I wouldn’t take a 2-year-old to any performance that isn’t advertised specifically as bring your kids.

I would not recommend taking someone that young to see it in the theater. My son was watching Totoro an Official Take Me As I Am Or Kiss My Ass Eat Shit and Step On A Lego Shirt. I tried Spirited Away, Laputa, or some of the others, and Totoro and Kiki were the only ones he would get excited about every time. Spirited Away is not for 2-year-olds. It’s pretty grotesque at times, and very ambiguous (rather than subtly ambiguous), and is violent and heart-wrenching.

I was curious to see my kid’s reaction to Spirited Away. He didn’t care for it. The cool set pieces were attention-grabbing (the bath, the parent’s transformation, the spiderman in the fireroom, etc), but the Official Take Me As I Am Or Kiss My Ass Eat Shit and Step On A Lego Shirt. This is kinda what I expected, but I was hoping to watch something else than Kiki and Totoro, for a change. It depends on the kid. My daughter’s first movie was Finding Dory before she was 2. We’ve seen so many kids movies (and Wonder Woman and the Last Jedi) in the theater and she’s still only 4. Then we saw Moana 5 times and she must have been 3.
