My gripe is that The US is second in spending per student in the whole dang world. And our education sucks. My biggest issue has always been government waste. A chunk of that is because the US educates are disproportional amount of poor kids compared to the rest of the world. (Our SPED funding is also astronomical but I don’t know how that compares.) How many other countries are providing breakfast, lunch, buses, after school care, before school care, vision screening, psychologists, etc etc? Don’t get me wrong, school districts are top-heavy with admin and there’s definite waste in our budgets, but it’s not a 1:1 comparison with countries that have a proper social safety net providing the services that schools in the US do.
