I’ve walked away from things (even shows or series I liked) if I felt they weren’t matching up with my mind and my values. We have so many choices of what to ingest these days (mentally and visually) that I don’t feel tied to something. I liked when some things actually painted drinking in a negative light or as annoying. When that fails I go to my drumset or my motorcycle and leave media behind. Or visit a friend or play with my kids. Things are messed up in our society for sure! It’s tragic, considering that at this point in history, we have the resources to live better and more peacefully than we ever have before (worldwide)! But greed and divisiveness seem to be taking us down.

Having had a past fraught with behaviors, I’m trying to move toward really taking care of myself and my needs in a sane way. You would think taking care of your own physical and mental well-being would be a natural and joyful thing to do, but no. It is hard work. And I think I’m not alone in this. We need to all start being kinder and wiser, starting with our own self-care. I believe then these images of insanity (drink to excess to cope and many others!) would not be so effective.
